Flowers Will Always Bloom
Submitted by: Kathryn AR
It is spring and today I saw the peonies blooming at the home of Guy Ward. Every spring he brought the first peony blossoms to decorate our church sanctuary and continued until the last bloom faded. Guy was chair of our Trustee Board when we voted to install an elevator in our small church in our retirement village. By the time of installation, he had fulfilled his term with the trustees although of course, he was faithfully serving on another board. Because of his deep commitment to the Lord and his knowledge and interest in the elevator project, he made it his business to be at the site every work day. He was available to answer questions, befriend and witness to the workers and kept the coffee pot on for them at all times. It was a physically demanding endeavor for this retired Marine colonel and we had no idea how difficult it was becoming for him and how tired he really was. He was happy to be at the dedication of the new elevator, but last spring before the peonies bloomed, he passed away after suffering a massive heart attack from a serious congenital heart condition that had been unknown and debilitating for years. We now enjoy that much needed elevator and Guy's wife Pat, promises that we will have his peonies at church again this spring.
